Generally, there are 3 to 6 disc plow bodies on a standard disc plow. When working, the unit moves forward, the disc rolls and cuts into the soil, and the soil rises along the concave surface of the disc. At the same time, the scraper plate cooperates to turn the soil over and break it. The disc is supported on the bearing of the plow column. The disc plough surface is at an angle to the forward direction and the vertical direction. We can also adjust the angle according to the requirements of the farmland.

Specific guidelines are as follows:
Plot size: For small plots (5-20 mu), choose a lightweight disc plow with 2-3 plowshares for flexibility.

For medium plots (20-50 mu), choose a medium-duty plow with 3-4 plowshares.

For large plots (over 50 mu), choose a heavy-duty plow with 4-6 plowshares for improved efficiency.

Soil type: For sandy loam/light loam, choose a lightweight plow (plowshare thickness 8-10mm) to avoid excessive soil breakage.

For heavy clay soil/compacted plots, choose a heavy-duty plow (plowshare thickness 12-16mm) for enhanced soil penetration and turning capabilities.

For plots with gravel, choose a disc plough with "wear-resistant reinforced plowshares" to reduce wear.

Matching power: It must match the tractor power (reference formula: 1 share corresponds to 15-20 horsepower). For example, a 3-share disc plough is suitable for a 45-60 horsepower tractor, and a 5-share disc plough is suitable for a 75-100 horsepower tractor. Insufficient power can easily lead to shallow penetration into the soil and stagnation, while excess power will waste fuel.

Q2: What's the relationship between the number of plows and the working width of a disc plough? How should I choose one?
Relationship:

Working width = working width per disc plough x number of plows (the width of a single plow is typically 35-50cm, depending on the model). For example, a 4-furrow plow (40cm per plow) has a working width of approximately 1.6m.

Selection logic:

Prioritize matching the tractor's power with the field's row spacing. For example, if planting corn (with a 60cm row spacing), choose a disc plough with a working width of 1.8m (3 plows x 60cm) to avoid missed or repeated disc plough. If the field is irregular, choose a model with a smaller working width for improved steering flexibility.

Q3: What should I do if the disc plough shakes violently during operation or the tractor is overloaded?

Extreme shaking: This is likely due to uneven plow heights or a deformed plow frame.

First, check that all disc plough are at the same level (measure with a spirit level). If any plow is too low or too high, adjust the bolts securing the corresponding plow.

If the plow frame is deformed, disassemble and correct it (it's recommended to consult a professional repair shop to avoid secondary damage caused by self-correction).

Excessive load: This may be due to excessive operating speed or excessive soil penetration. Reduce the tractor's forward speed (normal operating speed is 3-5 km/h, and 2-3 km/h for heavy clay soils).

Also, reduce the soil penetration depth (15-25 cm is recommended for each plowing session. Excessive plowing depth increases resistance and may even cause the tractor to stall).

Q4: Can a disc plough be used for straw return?

What precautions should be taken before operation?

Disc plough are suitable for returning straw to the field (especially corn and wheat straw), but two prerequisites must be met before use:

Straw shredding length: Straw must be shredded to 10-15 cm in advance (if not shredded, long straw can easily wrap around the disc plough shaft, causing operation to become stuck). Pre-treatment with a straw shredder is recommended.

Soil moisture: The soil moisture content should be between 15% and 25% (the soil should form a ball when squeezed by hand and fall apart when touched to the ground).

Excessive moisture (moisture content >25%) will cause the straw to stick to the soil, making it difficult to compost after burying.

Excessive dryness (moisture content <15%) will result in hard soil, making it difficult for the disc to penetrate the soil.

Q5: Can I still use a disc plough if its frame is deformed? Will it affect operations?

Continuing to use a deformed disc plough frame is not recommended, as it can lead to three major problems:

Uneven heights of the plow blades can cause missed plowing and uneven penetration;

Unbalanced force on the discs can cause severe vibration during operation, increasing the load on the tractor;

Long-term use can lead to excessive wear on the bushings and bearings, increasing repair costs.

How to fix minor deformation: Contact a professional agricultural machinery repair shop for correction using a hydraulic leveling machine (check the plow frame for leveling after correction).

For severe deformation (such as a broken plow frame or a bend greater than 10°), it is recommended to replace the disc plough frame to avoid safety hazards.
