Seeder is a planting machine that sows crop seeds. Seeders used for a certain type or crop are often named after the crop type, such as grain drills, corn hole drills, cotton drills, and forage spreaders.
In the 1st century BC, China had promoted the use of plows, which were the earliest drills in the world and are still used in northern dry farming areas.
Development history
The first seed drill in Europe was made in Greece in 1636. In 1830, Russians added a sowing device to an animal-powered multi-share plow to make a plow-seeder. Britain, the United States and other countries began to mass-produce animal-powered grain drills after 1860. After the 20th century, traction and suspension grain drills, as well as pneumatic seed drills, appeared one after another. The first centrifugal seeder appeared in Norway in 1958, and various precision seeders were gradually developed after the 1950s.
China introduced grain drills and cotton seeders from abroad in the 1950s. In the 1960s, it successfully developed various models such as suspended grain seeders, centrifugal seeders, universal frame seeders, and air-suction seeders, and successfully developed a mill-type seeding device. By the 1970s, two series of general-purpose seeding and cultivation machines and grain combined seeders had been formed and put into production. Various drills and hole seeders for grains, cultivated crops, forage, and vegetables have been promoted and used. At the same time, a variety of precision seeders have also been successfully developed.
