A disc harrow is a tillage implement that uses a harrow group consisting of multiple concave discs fixed on a horizontal axis as its working part.

Farm implement disc harrow working Components:

Consists of a harrow assembly consisting of concave discs mounted at regular intervals on a shaft.

The discs' concave surfaces are typically spherical, but tapered versions are also available. They come in both full-edge and notched-edge styles.

The harrow blades are typically made of wear-resistant 65Mn steel or low-carbon martensitic B5 steel. The center hole is typically square, separated by spacers.

The discs are then screwed onto a square shaft and secured with nuts to form a harrow assembly.

During operation, the discs' cutting edges are perpendicular to the ground and angled with the direction of travel. Driven by the tractor's traction and the soil's reaction force, the discs roll, cutting into the soil and breaking up, turning, and mulching it.

Double-row Opposed Harrow Groups

Double-row Opposed Harrow Groups: Harrow groups are arranged symmetrically on the left and right sides. The concave surfaces of the harrow discs in the front rows face each other, while the discs in the rear rows are positioned directly between the discs in the front rows and face opposite concave surfaces. Some opposed harrow groups have staggered left and right harrow groups to avoid missing tillage strips.

Offset Harrow Groups

Offset Harrow Groups: Harrow groups with concave surfaces in the front and rear rows can be positioned with the centerline of the harrow's width offset significantly from the tractor's longitudinal axis during operation.

This type of group is suitable for working under orchard canopies and is also widely used in open fields.

Machine structure: It primarily consists of a harrow frame, harrow groups, a traction or suspension device, and an angle adjustment mechanism. Some lightweight and small harrows are equipped with a counterweight box on the frame to increase penetration depth.

Wide-width harrows can have up to eight harrow groups in the front and rear rows, with up to 104 blades.

The single-chip unit of a heavy-duty harrow weighs up to 75 kg.

Lightweight harrows can cover a width of approximately 9 meters. For harrows with a width exceeding 4 meters, the two wings can be folded or the two rows can be brought together for horizontal traction during road transport.
