With extensive field experience, I offer practical advice on operating and maintaining our tractors, ensuring maximum productivity for farmers.

If you own or operate a 40 horsepower four-wheel drive agricultural tractor, you may have asked this question many times.
Many farmers only repair things when their machines break down, which usually happens during planting or harvesting - the worst time. The good news is that tractors of this size are easy to keep up with, and you only need to count by hour, not just by calendar.

Firstly, a brand new break in service is very important.

After the first 50 working hours, you need to undergo a preliminary examination. Replace the engine oil and oil filter, lubricate all pivot points, check the wheel nuts, belt tension, and front axle oil of the four-wheel drive system. New engine parts wear out quickly, and this initial repair helps prevent early damage. Don't skip this, it's also important for your warranty.

For routine daily work, it is important to develop a habit of quick inspection before each start.

Check the oil level, coolant, oil-water separator, tire pressure, and remove dust from the radiator and air filter. This only takes 5 minutes to solve before a small problem becomes a big problem, especially if you are working in dry and dusty fields.

After running in, perform routine engine maintenance every 200 working hours.
This means fresh engine oil and oil filter, draining the water from the fuel separator, and checking the air filter. If your farm is really dusty, please clean or replace the air filter more frequently. Dust is the number one enemy of small diesel engines.

After about 400 working hours, it's time to move on to the next level of service.

Replace the fuel filter and hydraulic filter, check the four-wheel drive front differential oil, lubricate the PTO shaft and three-point connecting rod. This is where many farmers make mistakes. When you plow or work on a slope, the four-wheel drive front axle will be impacted; Low or dirty gear oil will quickly wear it down.

The main comprehensive service requires approximately 800 working hours.

Replace the transmission oil, front axle gear oil, and hydraulic oil, and check all belts, hoses, clutches, and brakes. If possible, check the performance of the fuel injector and valve clearance. This service ensures the reliability of the entire machine for many years, especially if you use it for heavy tasks such as farming, rotary tillage, and towing.

One thing to remember: these times are a benchmark.
If you work hard every day running, pulling heavy tools, working in hilly areas, or cultivating in hot and dusty conditions, shorten the service cycle. If you only use it occasionally on a small farm, please strictly follow the schedule and maintain it once a year even if you haven't reached the hour mark yet. Oil will decompose over time, not just running time.

The 40 horsepower four-wheel drive tractor is a very popular main vehicle for small and medium-sized farms. It is powerful enough to handle most fieldwork, but it won't take care of itself. The cost of regular maintenance is much lower than replacing the engine or front differential midway through the season.
