Structural features of side-drive rotary tillers
The core feature of side-drive rotary tillers is that power is input from one side of the implement and transmitted to the blade shaft. The main structure includes:
Rotary tiller transmission system: located on one side of the implement (usually the left or right side), composed of a universal joint, a gearbox (reduction gear), and a drive shaft, responsible for transmitting the tractor's power output (PTO) to the blade shaft;
Blade shaft and blade: The blade shaft is arranged horizontally, and rotary tillage blades (such as curved blades and right-angle blades) are evenly installed on the surface. The number of blades depends on the width of the implement (common width 1-3 meters);
Frame and cover: The frame supports the overall structure, and the cover covers the top of the blade shaft to prevent soil and straw from splashing, while assisting in soil crushing and leveling;
Rotary tiller suspension device: connected to the tractor through a three-point suspension, some models are equipped with a depth adjustment mechanism (such as a hydraulic cylinder) to control the tillage depth.
2. Working principle of rotary tiller
Power transmission of rotary tiller: The power output shaft (PTO) of the tractor transmits power to the gearbox on the side of the rotary tiller through the universal joint, and drives the knife shaft to rotate at high speed after gear reduction (the speed is usually 200-300 rpm);
Tillage process of rotary tiller: The rotating blade cuts into the soil, cuts and turns the soil, and mixes the surface straw and weeds to loosen and level the soil;
Depth control: The distance between the rotary tiller and the ground is adjusted through the tractor hydraulic system or mechanical adjustment mechanism to control the tillage depth (usually 8-15 cm, which can be adjusted according to needs).
Precautions for purchasing and using rotary tillers
Tractor parameters for rotary tillers:
Make sure the tractor power output shaft (PTO) speed matches the rotary tiller (commonly 540 rpm), and the horsepower must meet the machine requirements (e.g. a 1.5-meter-wide rotary tiller usually requires 30-50 horsepower);
Check whether the suspension device is compatible (the spacing and lifting capacity of the three-point suspension must match the rotary tiller).
